Amboseli National Park
Amboseli National Park is located in Loitoktok District, Rift Valley Province of Kenya near the Tanzania border but further to the west making the park the best place to view the Mountain Kilimanjaro. It is 140km south of Nairobi. The Park covers an area of 39, 206 hectares. It is also the second most popular national park after the Maasai Mara National Reserve
The ecosystem mainly savannah grassland spreads across the Kenya-Tanzania border. The marshlands and rich grasses of the central area have large concentrations of game view. Amboseli’s vegetation stretches from the savannah plains, acacia woodlands, swamps and marshes.
The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants among other wildlife species like the buffaloes, zebras, Lions and gazelles with 400 species of birds including water birds, pelicans, kingfishers, crakes etc. Other attractions of the park include opportunities to meet the Maasai and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The park protects two of the five main swamps, and includes a dried-up Pleistocene lake and semi-arid vegetation.
